The Snare Of Foolishness
October 23 The Snare Of Foolishness
Proverbs 18:7 “A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul.”
The book of Proverbs is telling us that when our speeches and words are uttered without control, with no decency, without any considerations, we are led to self destruction. “………..Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.” Matthew 12:34. The mouth speaks what has been stored in the heart and this reveals our deepest thoughts, character and what we believe in. When our heart is full, it pours out what it has been fed with. The vile words begin to flow from our mouths and we are not able to control them, our focus is on our victim and we loose all our sensitivity.
What are we feeding our body, soul and our spirit from our thoughts?
Today, we are looking at some of the things that knowingly or unknowingly lead us into folly and sinfulness. Some of us are wearing masks but the way we talk show who we really are on the inside. Our thoughts direct our daily conversation, what thoughts do we go to bed with? What thoughts do we wake up with in the morning?
When we are ensnared with foolish thoughts this brings forth foolish talks and foolish behavior. We are told in Luke 6:45 that “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” What do we store up in our hearts? What do we display when we are under pressure, whatever we have stored up in our hearts are brought out in the open when people are looking. Are we the same at home as we are in the church?
When we sell our birthright for a bowl of porridge, we are ensnared by our own foolishness. The story of Samson and Delilah is a typical story of how he foolishly ensnared himself by revealing the secret of his strength to his enemies. While he slept his hair was shaved and he lost his strength, his eyes were gouged out, he was bound and put in a prison in Gaza. He lost the strength God had given him to fight his enemies, he paid the price for the foolishness that ensnared him because of his philistine wife, Delilah.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in our hearts, we are empowered to take captive every foolish thoughts and make them obedient to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us continue to guard are thoughts, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”-Proverbs 4:23. Our desires, our thoughts and our motives determine the actions we take and the direction of our lives. May we live a life that is joyful as our hearts are filled with the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Amen.
Let Us Pray: Our Heavenly Father we come, bringing our worries to you. We pray you merciful Father to grant us the grace to diligently guard our hearts and minds from the snares of foolishness and faithfully live in your peace and righteousness.
