THE LIGHT THAT SURPRISES
October 7. THE LIGHT THAT SURPRISES
🎶”Sometimes a light surprises the Christian while he sings” is the opening line of a well known hymn written by William Cowper in 1779.
The writer of this hymn is telling us Christians about the light that surprises us believers while we sing hymns and psalms to The Lord from our hearts. The songs and hymns that we sing up to our God are meaningful and He acts on them as we see in the second verse.
“It is the Lord who rises with healing in his wings”, this is the second line of the hymn which reveals to us the power of singing hymns in praise of the Lord. The hymn we sing to our Lord brings us an answer, He sends healing through the angels. Most of the hymns are prayers from bible verses that are very inspiring to listen to. “Malachi 4:2 says “But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings”. The writer of this hymn must have been reading the bible when he got inspired to write the hymn.
Our Lord who is our light rises in answer to our needs when we communicate with him through our hymns and our prayers. The Lord alone will answer.
Those times when we are unable to pray, weighed down with challenges that overwhelm us, we find that singing and dancing is a form of worship. There are many apps that are available for us to listen to and as we begin to worship The Lord in spirit and in truth, our burdens become lighter. The joy of it all is that we have not moved away from our home, you do not need to look for a priest, you have opened up a link to finding God in the four corners of your room.
Raise a sound of praise as you hear Habakkuk 3:17-18: “Though the fig tree should not blossom….yet I will rejoice in the Lord”! We are enjoined to trust and rejoice in God even in barren and difficult times.
Let us pray: Our Heavenly Father, this morning may our hearts be lifted up to you as we sing in praise of your holy name. “See what The Lord has done” will be our song of victory today as we worship you with our singing.
