Not By Bread Alone
October 27
Matthew 4:4– “ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God”
This bible verse was quoted by our Lord Jesus Christ when he was tempted by the devil to turn stones into bread after fasting for 40 days in the desert. The devil comes to us when we are weak and vulnerable, tempting us to bow to him, we must resist him so he can flee from us. The only armor we have to make him flee from us is God’s word which we wear as our shield. Physical food will sustain our bodies for a while but the SPIRITUAL nourishment, faith, trust, belief and obedience to God are the key to a sustainable life in God.
Our reliance on God for our daily living, relying on His word and His companionship will feed us physically, spiritually and mentally. In Deuteronomy 8:3 God made the Israelites hungry so that He would feed them with food they didn’t know about. He fed them with a strange food, manna, in the wilderness to teach them of total reliance on Him. No matter where we are, no matter our circumstances, He alone will feed us. He fed the multitude with food that sustained them in the desert, they lit no fire to cook, they had no cutlery, no fridge to store their food, they were fed with fresh food every day. Are we understanding that our God is faithful to us in every situation?
What food do you hunger for? Our spiritual food is to know Him and to trust him, He alone can feed us.
Matthew 6:33–“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto you.” The food we should seek is the kingdom food, only served by God himself in His word. We find love, joy, peace, grace, mercy, forgiveness, provision, protection and much more.
Let Us Pray: We pray to You oh Lord that our trust and our obedience to your word will be our daily manna of righteousness and grace as we seek you and find you daily.
