Do You Understand What You Are Reading

October 26     Do You Understand What You Are Reading

On Paul’s missionary journey, he encountered different kinds of believers, he met the Berean christians who checked the scriptures with the words that they heard. In Acts 17:11 he had the opportunity to praise them for eagerness and openness to the word of God.
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily,  whether those things were so.”

Every day we need to set aside some time to be alone with God, devote some time to study the bible. In reading and studying the bible we hear God speaking to us,we get to know the truth as the Bereans searched the bible for the truth. Knowing the truth will set us free from sin and sorrow, leading us into having an intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we spend time in the Word of God, we are transformed and we become channels from which God’s blessings flow to others.
Acts 8:30-“Understandest thou what thou readest?” is the question the disciple Philip asked an Ethiopian eunuch who was reading from the book of Isaiah, 53:7-8. The eunuch replied him saying, “How can I, except some man should guide me?”
Are we asking the same question today as we read our bible? The more we search, the more we find, the more we read, the more we will learn God’s loving mind towards us who believe.
.“The word of God is sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.”—Psalm 19:10
He gave, his only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ to die a shameful death for our sins on the cross, that we may have eternal life. What a sacrifice for us mere mortals who continue to deny, betray and crucify Him when we live a sinful life.

God’s love is poured out to the righteous and the wicked, as the rain falls on both the wicked and the righteous, to water our farmland. God in his word gives us the antidote for all the challenges and difficulties that come our way.
Are you discouraged-Psalms 23; 42; 43.
Has your faith become weak- Psalm 126; 146; Hebrew 11
Have you sinned and you seek forgiveness- Psalm 51;
Isaiah 53; 1 John 1

Let Us Pray: Merciful Father, we thank you for all that you have done for us to know you and to love you. Your attribute of Love has shown us the depth of your love for in and out of season. May your words continue to resonate in our lives so that we will continue to serve you in spirit and in truth.
