ENGAGE In Spiritual Exercise 1
September 17. ENGAGE IN SPIRITUAL EXERCISE 1
…For physical exercise is of limited value, but godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for the present life and for the one to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 BSB
There are two types of exercises recommended in today's scripture. Physical for the body and spiritual (godliness) for the spirit. We all know the benefits of physical exercises and feel them when we do them. Special exercises for different parts of the body have even been studied and recommended yet we have studied little about spiritual exercises. Just as we have physical muscles, we have spiritual muscles. Our spiritual muscle is called FAITH. It is with faith that we do things in the spirit. Our faith must be exercised.
Just as we are born with basic muscles for survival which we grow and exercise, we are born with a measure of faith which we must grow and exercise as well. For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one. Romans 12:3 HCSB
Just as a child feeds the basic body with food to grow, we must feed our basic measure of faith with the word of Christ so it can grow. Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Romans 10:17 BSB
The more you hear the word of Christ, the more your faith grows. So the first spiritual exercise is to hear the word of Christ. The more of the word of Christ that you hear, the more you are feeding your faith and the more it grows. The more a child feeds and grows his muscles, the more he realizes what his muscles can do. It is the same with faith. The more you hear the word of Christ, the more conscious you become of what you can do with your faith. Think on these things today and tomorrow we shall continue with spiritual exercise.
Let Us Pray
Dear Father God, open my eyes to understand and grow the measure of faith that You gave me to the glory of Your Kingdom in the name of Jesus.
