THE GOD OF MERCY AND COMPASSION

August 31    THE GOD OF MERCY AND COMPASSION

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23.

This bible passage has been made into a solemn song that resonates with its full meaning in every believer.
We know of a truth, that God’s loving kindness and his mercies never cease, they are new every morning. In his loving kindness you begin to see God and to appreciate him. He will not withhold the light of the day against us because of our sins, the rains will fall upon us all in its season, as we watch the sunrise.

The steadfast love of our Lord Jesus Christ culminates in his mercy that never ceases and does not have an ending to it, they are new every morning. Are we open to receive God’s mercy that is freely available to us? Are we judging ourselves and not forgiving ourselves of the sins that God has mercifully forgiven us? The mercy that God has made available to all creation is a continuum, replacing judgment with forgiveness for us who are repentant of our sins. Are we as believers able to show mercy to others who are in the same boat with us? Are we like the servant who was forgiven but showed no mercy to a fellow servant who owed him pittance? As the day draws to an end and we acknowledge our shortcomings, we are afforded God’s endless mercy and compassion. May we graciously show our hands of mercy to others.

In 1 Peter 1:3 we are told that “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Our Father in heaven. In his mercy, God gave his only begotten Son to be a sacrificial lamb for us, he died for our sins that we may be reconciled to our Father in heaven for our eternal life. When we go astray, forsaking him, seeking after other gods, The Lord Almighty waits for our return to be gracious to us. Our Lord Jesus Christ is still in the business of saving us from the snare of the fowler, Psalm 91:3 and the snare of foolishness. We are not to take God’s mercy for granted, He knows the right timing for the disciplinary actions that will wake us up to the reality of His call upon our lives.

Psalm 103:13 “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him”. The word pitieth means to feel tender mercy and love for our children who are hurting. In his words, it shows God’s deep mercy, love and compassion and gentle care towards us his children. In vs 14, the psalmist explained further that God knows our feeble frame and remembers that we are dust. He knows our fragile nature and that we are weak, his compassion and mercy play out in our daily lives as we are rescued from all our foes.

Let Us Pray:
Good morning my Lord and my Father in heaven. We thank you and praise you for your merciful kindness towards us, may we never take it for granted. Today we will ask you, Lord, what can we do for you? Please Lord minister to us and let us be the hands and the feet that will carry out your plans for humanity, we pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
