I STAND AT MY WATCH
August 15 I STAND AT MY
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the Lord answered me. Habakkuk 2:1-2a
For prophet Habakkuk his watchtower was a place of sober reflection, quiet time, waiting in the silence for God’s response and messages to him.
What is the responsibility of a watchman on the watch tower? Watchtowers are tall buildings built to guard cities, to monitor the movement of the people and to watch out for enemies. Believers are called out to be watchmen on the watchtowers wherever they find themselves. They must be AWAKE and warn others about any danger they foresee.
Our calling and our service unto The Lord Jesus Christ is not dependent on any qualification that we have.
In years gone by, many nations had watchtowers outside of the walled city gates. The towers were designed and used to detect danger and protection against attacks from their enemies. Today in Israel they still have the watchtowers standing tall against the walls of the city.
If The Lord does not build watch the city, in vain do the men watch psalm 127:1. This tells us that The Lord knows about the building of the watchtower and the watchmen who He has chosen to guard the city. Have you been chosen to be a watchman in your church, in your city?
As a believer do you trust and have faith to accomplish the mission The Lord has given you?
Are you enamored with the breastplate of faith, ready to obey God’s commands, trusting the God who sent you?
Will you keep the watch over a sinful city and not condemn them like Jonah did to the city of Nineveh? The Lord of heaven and earth has his purpose and you are only a vessel in his hands.
Walking round the walls of Jericho was all that Joshua and his troops did in obedience to God’s commands and the walls of Jericho fell. There was no gunshot, the watchmen on the watchtower of Jericho watched in vain cause The Lord was not with them. When you are on the Lord’s side no weapon fashioned against you will prosper.
Today let us identify our watchtowers and get the armor of God from Ephesians 6:11-18 and be equipped to keep our watch faithfully in absolute trust in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let Us Pray: Almighty and our awesome Lord, we thank you that we are chosen and blessed to be watchmen in our kingdom work. Lord, grant us the grace to tarry and to have enough oil in our lamps as we keep the vigil for the appointed time. Amen
