BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD
August 20. BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD
…….”Who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29
The bible passage in
reference is a statement made by John the Baptist about our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Lord approached John, he pointed at Jesus and this was how he introduced him to the crowd. This is a powerful majestic introduction , that made some of the followers of John to leave him and follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
If you were in the crowd, would you have followed Jesus Christ? The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world? You have come face to face with He who will take away all your sins, wipe them all out and you are declared cleansed of all sins.
God had revealed to John and given him the clue, the one upon whom the Holy Spirit fell upon was The Savior of the world. We thank God that John was in obedience and he did not doubt God’s instructions. This introduction of Jesus was an indication that our Lord was armed and equipped to take away our sins. John the Baptist had made it clear to all the people that he was not a prophet, he was only the forerunner of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Today, that message that John the Baptist announced has not changed. Behold, is still a powerful word that makes you listen and in this case you are introduced to The Son of God in human flesh. This is the sacrificial lamb getting ready for the singular reason why he came in human clothing. He was prepared for the assignment waiting for him, the denial, the betrayal and his death on the cross. He saw the faces of those who would nail him to the cross, He journeyed, ate and drank with them.
We did not meet him as a teacher or a prophet, we meet him as the Savior of the world. John recognized who Jesus Christ was and he acknowledged that He was before him. He also knew that his own baptism was with water and that He who came after him, our Lord Jesus Christ, would baptize with the Holy Spirit. The Lamb was anointed, equipped for his journey to the cross.
Have we ever stopped to think of what God has benefited from us since He created us. Our Lord Jesus Christ knew his assignment at the beginning of time and he did not at any time reject his responsibilities. He went about doing good knowing fully well what the end was? He healed all the sick and He is still healing us today. He fed thousands from nothing, today He is still feeding his flock.
What have we given up for our Lord Jesus Christ? What does God get from us? He has given his all, He came as The Savior of the world and He remains the same until He returns to take us home.
Let Us Pray:
Merciful Father we are grateful for your sacrificial love and the gift of your life to us mere mortals. We thank you that your love for us is everlasting, grant us the grace to follow You to the end of our time here on earth. Amen
