A CALL TO SERVE

August 11.  A CHARGE TO SERVE

It will cost you something to serve God. Exodus 25:11

A call to serve God is a sacred call to believers to honor God by loving others and to fulfill his purposes.

The second verse of the hymn reads “TO SERVE THE PRESENT AGE, MY CALLING TO FULFILL”. This hymn says that to serve the present day is the fulfillment of our calling, to meet the spiritual needs of those around us. God’s calling  is usually not for Bible scholars or those who know the word. Service to others means using our time, our talents, our wisdom, our finances and serving wholeheartedly and to point them to our Lord Jesus Christ and to eternal life.

Romans 12:11 says that we should not be lazy in our work but serve the Lord with all our heart. A lazy man who puts his hands on the plough and looks back cannot be of service to The Lord. God knows what was in each person and this is how he knows the assignment that you alone can do. Are we ready to give God our full time and not just our spare time?

Many years ago I met the MD of a bank who spent his weekends sharing tracts and ministering to people on the streets. This service did not diminish his person or his job as a bank MD, he felt such joy and gratitude that God called him to this service. He was sowing seeds that someone else may water and the increase will be The Lord’s. I know people who would not get up to share tracts on the high streets, they feel too busy and too big to do such.

What ego are you dealing with today that you are unable to serve others? The office you occupy may have been given to you for service to others around you.

I have a small business and I know what happens when any money comes in. It took a very young man to open my eyes to the reality of what my business is all about. The young man who did not know me had come with his sister who was my client,  he turned to me and said “Aunty this is your ministry”. I then realized that my resources were to serve others and I understood it. God meets all our needs as we wholeheartedly serve him.

Today may the Holy Spirit open our eyes to see the need around us.

Let Us Pray:

Heavenly Father, today we ask that You will not pass us by as you call us for service in your kingdom. When you call us Lord we will answer and we will be somewhere working for You Lord. May our hearts be joyful in service to you. Amen
