OVERCOMING FEAR
July 11. OVERCOMING FEAR
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
‘Fear not’. God gives this command 365 times in the bible. I, however, see two types of fears. The first fear I saw in the bible and that we first know is the fear of negative things happening to me that leads me away from God. The second type of fear which I have to learn is the fear of God that makes me avoid evil. The fear of God is good and I am encouraged to do it. Ecclesiastes 12:13, Proverbs 3:7.
Fear of evil happening to one paralyses the person and it is morbid. It leads one to depend on his own understanding and avoid God. The negative that one fears eventually happens once you avoid God.
To overcome fear, you must know who your companion is in any venture. If God is with you and you allow Him to hold your hand, you overcome morbid fear. How do I allow God to hold my hand? You fix your mind on Him and ask Him to guide you. Ask Him to lead you in any decision you want to take and you will obey His guidance. His counsel may be quite different from how you feel it should be done but still hold on to His counsel and He will carry you through the water or the fire such that none will injure you.
Who do you see as your companion and guide in life?
Let Us Pray:
Dear Father, I thank You that You are always with me even when I do not recognize You. Forgive me for ignoring You and going my own way. Help me from now to live in the consciousness of Your presence with me and follow your lead in the name of Jesus.
