A person with understanding has wisdom as his objective, but a fool looks only to earthly goals. Pro 17:24 ISV
Scriptures like today's for meditation sets me thinking deeply about who I am. Motivational teachers talk about earthly goals like money and financial worth, cars, private jets, etc. but this scriptures values anyone with such goals a fool. These things are very essential for life but the bible says they are not worth being a person’s primary goal in life. This sets me to gain understanding of why people pray with little success. If praying for material things is the key to riches, everybody in my country will be rich as we pray a lot for such yet the majority of the people are below the poverty line.
Rather than praying for earthly things, we should pray for wisdom. The more one prays for earthly things, the more he establishes himself as a fool. It reminds me of king Solomon when he offered a thousand burnt offerings before God in Gibeon. When God told him to ask for whatever he wanted, he asked for wisdom. Check 1 Kings 3:1-15. God gave him wisdom but with wisdom, He gave him every earthly thing that he did not ask for. A person may have all the material things of the world and still be rated as a fool whereas the poorest person materially may be rated a person with understanding. Understanding is equivalent to light in the spirit. When a person has understanding, then he can see beyond natural things. We shall continue to look at wisdom tomorrow so that you can change your goal from perishable things to everlasting goals that will take you through all seasons.
Let Us Pray:
I pray that your eyes of understanding will open to know what you should pursue and drop that which is not necessary in the name of Jesus.
