GIVING THANKS

August 1.       GIVING THANKS

Luke 17: 11-19

Most of us do not understand the concept of giving thanks for gifts and the favors we receive.

Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks, being grateful, the acknowledgment of benefits or favors especially to our God. It is an active word, an expression of the state of your mind when you have received a gift, maybe not an expected favor.

Today, from our Bible reference we are looking at the story we are very familiar with. We all have heard of the 10 lepers who were healed by our Lord Jesus Christ and ONLY 1 came back to acknowledge the awesome gift that he had received, he came to say thank you. Most times we acknowledge the blessing and forget the one who blessed us. Why, I may ask? This is seen when we hear people say “I am a self-made man,” please from where to where? Deut 8:18 tells us that God gives us the ability to make wealth!

For us to receive gifts or anything from anyone we must have a relationship with the person. There are many gifts God has given us which we have taken for granted.

1) Our abilities to wake up at the break of dawn piercing through our homes and breaking the darkness, ushering us into a brand new day. Do we thank the Lord as we see the light knowing that someone else will not see the light of that day.

2) Our abilities to use all our senses without needing to wash our eyes, our noses and our ears before we can use them.

3) Our abilities to recognize voices no matter how old we are, we even recognize laughter!

Our Awesome God has equipped us with all that we need to be able to live in the pleasures of his creation and the ability to communicate with Him! What a wonderful God we serve.

May we at the beginning of each day be thankful for the gift of life and the ability to see, to hear, to smell and to move our limbs. All thanks to The Lord who woke us up from our slumber.

Let Us Pray-

Today Lord, and forever may we remember to give you thanks for all that you are doing for us. We are grateful for Your Light that guides us in our lives journey.
