GUARD YOUR HEART
June 6.
“Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” - Proverbs 4:23 NKJV
King Solomon counselled that we should guard our hearts with all diligence because issues of life come from there.
How does Jesus explain this? The word is seed. The heart is the soil. The heart does not distinguish between seeds. Any seed sown will germinate once it has the right environment. The word of God is seed and likewise the word of the world or the world of the devil. Jesus explained how the heart processes the word. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” - Matthew 13:23 NIV
When the word gets into the heart and it is retained so that the hearer understands it then perseveres in doing what he understands, the fruit of the word will be life to him.
Let us look at this example. Everyone thinks of the chemist or doctor at the first signal of pain or discomfort in the body. One day, the seed of James 5:14-15 was sown in my heart and I retained it till understanding came to my heart. Since then, I pray first when disease knocks on my body. I pray to God first and keep praying, speaking the word of healing until the symptoms disappear.
Let us pray: Dear Father, give me an understanding heart to take Your word in and retain it.
