THE VICTORIOUS GOD
MAY 21.
I
AM YOUR SHEPHERD
“The
Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.” - Psalm 23:1
Many
years ago, when I was taught this in my primary school days I had a very
different understanding. I rewrote the verse by reading “The Lord is my
Shepherd I shall want.” For sure this makes sense, with the Lord as our
Shepherd who would not want more, he feeds us satisfactorily and I want more of
Him.
Today
we wake up to the victorious God announcing to us that He is our Shepherd. Our
life is a journey where we are guided by our seen and unseen shepherds, it is a
long journey and as we step out we must know who our shepherd is.
The
word shepherd means to pasture, tend, feed and be a companion. The question is,
Who is our Shepherd? Have we accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our Shepherd?
Psalm 139 vs 13 tells us that God knit us together and put us in our mother’s
womb and Psalm 23 declares to us that The Lord is our Shepherd and we shall not
want. He had nurtured us from conception to the point when he is now our
companion and our Shepherd, declaring his victory over us his sheep. Our
victorious God, Our shepherd knows our needs and provides all that we can ever
need. Our shepherd does not stop feeding us, protecting us and carrying us when
we are too weak to walk. Like the Bummer lamb He rescues us when we are
rejected by family and friends. At the times when we are lonely let us remember
our Good Shepherd. We know his voice and we follow him faithfully, he is not
like a hireling who has no relation and no commitment with his sheep. The
hireling will run away if a lion attacks his flock but Our Lord Jesus Christ
gave his life in exchange for the salvation of his sheep, he demonstrated this
by dying on the cross for us. Our shepherd celebrates our progress as we learn
his ways and follow him faithfully.
Let
us Pray: I thank you Lord for being a sheep in your flock. Thank you for
being our shepherd. We will follow you all the days of our lives and we shall
not want.
