THE EVERLASTING GOD

May 5.

Have you never heard or understood? Don’t you know that the Lord is the everlasting God…. Isaiah 40: 28-31.

The days are going so quickly, I remember that Christmas was celebrated not too long ago and here we are celebrating Good Friday and Easter, the most important days in the Church calendar.

The celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ in this season is from everlasting to everlasting. Some questions come to my mind, what if he gave up on his disciples who had betrayed and denied him? What if Jesus Christ rose from the dead and decided to take a holiday from the stressful life he had been through? What if he did not leave us the Holy Spirit, our Comforter? The questions are endless and we sure do not have any answers to all of them and many more.

Today we begin to see the enormity of the work our Lord Jesus Christ did for us. Who could have continued to intercede for us, sinners? We would have been like orphans, abandoned to the mercy of the roaring lion, the devil roaring to devour and to destroy. Without the disciples the story of death and resurrection would not have been broadcast to the world.

Surely, our God who is victorious and the same from everlasting to everlasting ensured a victory for the work of our Lord Jesus on the cross.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,” 2 Timothy 1:9.

It is a profound mystery to realize that God’s plan for our lives did not begin when we first thought of Him, but before the world was even formed. We often feel the pressure to perform or to prove that we are worthy of the holy life He has called us to. Yet, we are reminded here that our salvation and our calling are not based on anything we have done.

We didn't audition for our roles in His kingdom, and we didn't earn our place at His table. Instead, we are held by a purpose and a grace that were established in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. Our security doesn't rest on our effort, but on His eternal decree.

Because our calling is rooted in His purpose, we can find great peace in our daily walk. We don’t have to worry that a bad day or a moment of weakness will disqualify us from His grace. This grace was given to us long before we were ever born, meaning it is big enough to cover every mistake we will ever make. When we strive for holiness, we aren't doing it to get God to love us, but because He already loves us.

We are simply responding to a gift that has been ours since eternity past. His grace is the fuel for our obedience, and His purpose is the anchor for our souls.

Let’s walk today with the confidence of people who are part of an ancient and beautiful plan. We are not accidents, and our faith is not a coincidence. We have been saved and called for a reason that is far bigger than ourselves.

When we face uncertainty, we can look back at the beginning of time and realize that God has been mindful of us forever. Let’s take a moment to rest in the fact that we are chosen, we are called, and we are completely covered by a grace that has no beginning and no end.

Let us pray: Lord, we are overwhelmed by the truth that You loved us and called us before the world began. Thank You that our salvation does not depend on our own works, but on Your unchanging purpose and grace. Help us to live the holy life You have called us to, not out of fear, but out of a heart full of gratitude. Thank You for the security we find in Christ Jesus. We want to honour Your purpose in everything we do today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bible verses: Gen: 21:33, Isaiah:9:6, Psalm: 90:2, Romans: 16:26.
